New Logo and Amazon Availability

New Groovy Girls logo as of 2023

The image above is a header found on the Amazon storefront for Manhattan Toy, I had to use google images to dig this one up since there is no visible link to the Groovy Girls dolls on the storefront itself.

Behind the logo you’ll see an assortment of Groovy Girls (and Boy) dolls that are/were recently available (some are listed as ‘currently unavailable’ while others are purchasable). There are some subtle differences between these more-current dolls and their predecessors.

Evolution

The most notable changes the Groovy Girls have undergone over the years would be the faces, as well as the tags

1998-1999

For the first 2 years of production, the faces were simple ‘smiley’ faces (as seen in the drawing below on the left): 2 dotted eyes, an upturned nose, a U-shaped smile, and 2 eyebrows–all proportional to each other

2000-2007

Beginning some time in 2000, the faces became more stylized (‘cutesy’ instead of ‘plain’, as seen in the drawing above on the right): slightly larger eyes with small lashes on the sides, a small downturned nose, smaller mouth closer to the nose, smaller eyebrows closer to the eyes

Also during this time, the tags began to show the doll’s name

Late 2007-present

By 2008, the dolls were given colored eyes

Beginning with the RSVP characters (late 2008), the hair was made with thinner, stiffer yarn

Core Characters

First released in 2004 then revamped in 2006, these 6 characters were the stars of the Groovy Girls TV Show. The first letter of each of their names spell out the word ‘groovy’

Gwen, Reese, Oki, O‘Ryan, Vanessa, Yvette
